If you’ve been keeping up with my digests this year, you know I’m all about spreading hope, happiness, and joy. This week, I’ve been really leaning into the idea of finding joy in the small, often overlooked moments in our daily lives.
I know how easy it is, especially in our busy executive worlds, to rush through our days, checking off one task only to hurtle headfirst toward the next. It can leave us feeling overwhelmed, unfulfilled, and sometimes a little joyless.
But what if we could intentionally slow down and soak in the simple delights around us?
Recently, I had a real “AHA!” moment in the most unexpected place: my morning shower. After all of the dust and dirt of the construction work that has gone into renovating the bathroom, the simple act of sitting and feeling the warm water cascade over me was pure delight. It was a profound reminder of how easily we take for granted such basic comforts.
Those few minutes of a simple shower were truly delightful and brought me immense joy and a fresh perspective.
And it’s not just showers! Think about the simple pleasure of sunshine on your face, its warmth bringing a quiet optimism to your day. Or, on a cloudy day, the gentle invitation to slow down, get cozy, and simply connect with yourself and your loved ones. These moments, often fleeting, are incredible opportunities for a mental reset and a wellspring of quiet happiness.
For me, consciously embracing these everyday gifts has been a powerful way to inject more clarity, gratitude, and renewed energy into my life. It’s not about big, grand gestures, but about finding those tiny pockets of delight that are always there, waiting for us to notice.
What small joy will you pause to embrace today?
Just as pausing for personal joy and clarity helps us, extending that appreciation to others is a powerful way to foster stronger relationships and a more positive environment. This is especially vital in the workplace.
A lack of appreciation significantly impacts teams. Employee retention is a top concern for leaders, particularly with talent shortages in sectors like construction. Did you know an astounding 79% of employees who quit their jobs cite a lack of appreciation as a major reason?
Taking a moment to genuinely acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of those around you can make a monumental difference. It’s about bringing joy and recognition to their day, much like we find joy in the simple moments of our own lives.

We’ve talked about finding joy in life’s small moments and how appreciating others creates a more positive environment. This same thoughtful approach can truly transform even the most common workplace activity: meetings.
I’ll admit, the word “meeting” can sometimes make me groan! I’ve been in countless meetings over the years, and most have felt like a time-suck. But well-structured meetings aren’t just about efficiency; they’re prime opportunities to connect, show appreciation, and drive clear progress.
